Take a 2-Hour Test Drive
This class will help you decide if Riichi is "your thing" before committing to the loooong process of learning the game in detail. Seats are limited to keep class size small.
Date

Prerequisite:
This lesson is for players who already know Hong Kong mahjong and want to explore Riichi — no prior Riichi experience needed.
Who's It For?
Curious about the Japanese version of mahjong? Try this before you commit to a full Riichi class session pack. Riichi Mahjong is the most rule-heavy version of mahjong with deep defensive play, a strict sacred Furiten rule, and its own scoring table. It's also the version behind most online mahjong games, so if you've ever wanted to really play mahjong online on a client that is actually updated and maintained available on mobile or computer, this is where you start.
In this two-hour intro class, we'll cover what makes Riichi unique and why it plays so differently from other versions. Walk away knowing if it's your thing or not! And if you're hooked, the full five-session Riichi course is waiting for you!
What's included
- Live instruction from an experienced teacher
- Introduction to beginner yaku — the essential valid hands you need to play a real game
- Simplified scoring so you can focus on playing without getting lost in the full table
- Furiten explained — Riichi's most important rule and how it shapes your strategy
- Call tile orientation — how to display your melds correctly at the table
- Comfortable studio with clean bathrooms and free parking
You'll leave with enough knowledge (and curiosity) to decide if Riichi is the game for you!
