How much do mahjong lessons cost?
Hong Kong lessons are $35 each, the MCR class is $45, and private or Filipino lessons are $50 per person. Our 5-lesson Japanese Riichi course is $300. Check each class page for dates and booking.
I've never played mahjong. Where do I start?
Start with our Hong Kong Beginner (Learn to Play) lesson. It assumes you've never even seen a tile, and it's the foundation for every other style we teach. No judgment if you call a chow when you meant to pung.
When are classes held?
Hong Kong Beginner runs Saturdays & Sundays, 1–3 PM. Scoring (Lesson Two) is Sunday afternoons. Private and Filipino lessons are weeknights by request, and Riichi courses open a few times a year — they book fast.
Do your classes have prerequisites?
Beginner classes, no — just show up. Riichi and MCR require completing Hong Kong Beginner first (or being comfortable building a basic hand). Not sure where you fit? Contact us and we'll point you in the right direction.
My group has never played. Should we book a table?
Book a lesson, not a table. Table reservations are for groups that already know how to play — lessons are how you get there.
Do you teach American mah jongg?
Our lessons and leagues are Asian styles only — Hong Kong, Riichi, MCR, and Filipino. But our automatic tables support American play, so experienced American groups are welcome to book a table. Here's why we teach what we teach.
