Who's It For?

Anyone who already plays mahjong and wants to take on Riichi. If you're comfortable with tile types and basic hand-building, you're ready — our Learn to Play class covers everything you need.

So you've seen Akagi, watched Saki, played Yakuza, or stared at a Riichi table and thought, "What is even happening?" We've got you.

This five-session course will teach you how to play Japanese Riichi mahjong — a fast-paced, strategic version of the game packed with unique scoring, dramatic twists, and its own deep culture of play. If you're into tactics, tension, or anime-style glory, this is the path for you.

What You'll Learn

  • Tile differences and how Riichi flows differently from other styles
  • All 30+ yaku (winning hands) and how to recognize them
  • Full scoring breakdown: han, fu, penalties, and more
  • Game etiquette and table behavior
  • Hands-on gameplay every session with real-time feedback and scoring walkthroughs
  • Learn and practice on automatic tables configured for Riichi

Do I Need To Take Anything First?

Just Learn to Play (or equivalent experience). You do not need to know Hong Kong scoring, and this is the only multi-session course we offer — all our other classes are single sessions you can take in any order.
