Who’s It For?

So you’ve seen Akagi, watched Saki, played Yakuza, or stared at a Riichi table and thought, “What is even happening?” We’ve got you.

This five-session course will teach you how to play Japanese Riichi mahjong — a fast-paced, strategic version of the game packed with unique scoring, dramatic twists, and its own deep culture of play. If you’re into tactics, tension, or anime-style glory, this is the path for you.

What You’ll Learn

  • Tile differences and how Riichi flows differently from other styles
  • All 30+ yaku (winning hands) and how to recognize them
  • Full scoring breakdown: han, fu, penalties, and more
  • Game etiquette and table behavior
  • Hands-on gameplay every session with real-time feedback and scoring walkthroughs
  • Learn and practice on automatic tables configured for Riichi

Format

  • Typically, once a week, in the evenings (date/time announced when live bookings start).
  • Five 2-hour sessions
  • $300 per person
  • 8-player cap

How Enrollment Works

  • A minimum of 4 participants is required to run the class.
  • To run with 8 players, we need two full tables (4 each).

Payment & Deposits

  • $25 deposit required to sign up.
  • Once enough players are confirmed, you’ll be billed for the balance.
  • If the class does not run due to insufficient sign-ups, your deposit will be refunded in full.
