Have a Seat. Let’s Play.

Whether you're new to mahjong or grew up calling tiles, there's a seat for you. We offer lessons, leagues, events, and table reservations on automatic tables.

Our house styles are Hong Kong, Riichi, and Filipino — but if your group plays something else, we can accommodate.

Frequently asked questions

Is gambling allowed?

Nope. Our studio is not your shady Uncle's basement. Gambling, smoking, and vaping aren’t allowed in the studio. Respect the space, the game, and your fellow players.

What lesson should I take first?

If you've never played mahjong, we recommend starting with our Hong Kong Beginner Lesson. Want to know why? Check out our blog post on mahjong styles.

What kind of mahjong do you support?

Our tiles and automatic tables support Asian-style play, including Hong Kong, Filipino, and Japanese (Riichi) styles. We offer lessons for those same styles. Our auto tables can also support American-style play upon request.

How can I find people to play with?

By signing up for one of our leagues! Each league runs for a set "season," giving you a built-in group to play with and plenty of chances to meet new players. Join our newsletter to hear when new leagues open.

Do you teach Riichi?

We do! But unlike teaching Hong Kong-style, which is pretty straightforward and can be booked through our site, learning Riichi is...a process. Read more about our Riichi Lesson Series.

Can I bring food or drinks?

We don’t serve food upstairs, but you’re welcome to bring light snacks and beverages (nothing smelly or crumbly, please). You won't go hungry though — Atlanta Chinatown’s food court and restaurants are just downstairs. Amazing options, generous portions, unbeatable prices.

What's the parking situation?

Atlanta Chinatown in Chamblee offers abundant parking just seconds from our studio, and is free for all guests. How rare is that?

and...the bathroom situation?

Our bathrooms are clean, available only to upstairs guests, and are secured by a keycode.

Atlanta Mahjong Studio didn’t come from a business plan — it came from a love of the game and the need for a place to play it. One where you don’t have to chase down locations, guess the rules, or wonder if you’re welcome.

Curious how it came together?

"Mahjong" or "Mah Jongg" — What's the Difference?

Mahjong. Mah Jongg. Mah-Jongg. If you've ever tried to Google this game, you've probably noticed nobody can agree on how to spell it. Turns out, the spelling actually tells you something — it's often a hint about which version of the game someone's playing. Here's the quick breakdown, plus why we spell it the way we do at the studio.
