Perfect. This is where you start. We’ll explain everything from tile types to turn order. You don’t need to know anything in advance.
When & How It Works
Lessons are held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM — that’s the first two hours the studio is open. Just select the 1:00 PM time slot and choose “Hong Kong style – Beginner Lesson” when booking online.
What We Teach
Group lessons focus on Hong Kong-style mahjong, a great foundational style with straightforward rules and fast gameplay. You’ll learn how to recognize tiles, build a hand, score points, and keep the table moving. We won’t throw you into the deep end — unless you ask nicely.
Pricing
Lessons are $25 per person for a full 2-hour session. The fee helps cover time, materials, and keeps the studio running smoothly for everyone.

Common Questions
Let's jump straight to the heart of the matter. No, we can't teach you to beat your Auntie and/or Grandma. They are too powerful.
We can help you play better, but defeating them is between you and whatever ancestral forces they’ve tapped into.
What if I’ve never played any version of mahjong?
Will I be sitting with other beginners?
Usually, yes — but it depends on who else signed up. We try to group beginners together whenever possible.
Is it okay if I come alone?
Absolutely. You don’t need a group to book a lesson.
Do you offer lessons in other styles?
Yep! We offer Riichi lessons and private Hong Kong lessons too — just reach out through the contact form to set one up.
Do I get to keep playing after the lesson ends?
If there’s space available and you’d like to stick around, let us know at the studio. We’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just yourself and a willingness to learn. We’ll provide the tiles, the table, and the occasional sympathetic head nod.
