Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What kind of mahjong do you support?
Our tiles and tables support Asian-style play: Hong Kong, Chinese, Filipino, Taiwanese, and Japanese (Riichi). We do not currently offer or teach American-style mahjong.

Our house style for open play is Hong Kong (at non-Riichi tables). If you have a group and prefer a different style, just book four seats (a full table) and play the one you like.

Is gambling allowed?
Nope. Our studio is not your shady Uncle's basement. Gambling, smoking, vaping, and drinking aren’t allowed in the studio. Respect the space, the game, and your fellow players.

I'm a beginner — is that okay?
Absolutely. We welcome players of all experience levels. If you’ve never played or need a refresher, you can even book a lesson. Learn more on our lessons page.

Do you teach Riichi?
We do! But unlike teaching Hong Kong-style, which is pretty straightforward and can be booked through our site, learning Riichi is… a process. For more information, see our information about lessons.

Is it weird if I come alone?
Not at all. Four players who’ve never met sitting down together is totally normal — and often the start of a great game. The mahjong community is welcoming, low-pressure, and full of people who love meeting new players.

Can I bring food or drinks?
We don’t serve food or drinks upstairs, but you’re welcome to bring light snacks and beverages (nothing smelly, please — this isn’t the place for a five-course meal or microwaved fish stew). You won’t go hungry though — Atlanta Chinatown’s food court and restaurants are just downstairs, offering generous portions and unbeatable prices.

Where are you located?
We’re upstairs inside Atlanta Chinatown. Look for the staircase near the food court entrance. If you get turned around, just ask a vendor downstairs — they’ll point you in the right direction.

Is the studio accessible by elevator?
Unfortunately, no. The building is older and does not have elevator access. Reaching our studio requires using stairs.

What's the parking situation?
Atlanta Chinatown in Chamblee offers abundant parking just seconds from our studio — and it’s free for all guests. How rare is that?

And... the bathroom situation?
Our bathrooms are clean, available only to upstairs guests, and are secured by a keycode.

Reservations

Can I just walk in and play?
Sometimes — but not always. If a group has a no-show or other walk-ins are hoping to play, we'll do our best to get you a seat at a table.

Do I have to reserve a whole table?
Yes. All reservations are for entire tables (four seats), not individual spots. When you divide the cost by four, it's still super affordable — and it eliminates the issue of random no-shows from people who booked a single seat and didn’t show up. Booking by table keeps the games smoother and more predictable for everyone.

How long can I reserve for?
Reservations are available in 2-, 4-, or 6-hour blocks.

How much does it cost?
We keep our rates low — just enough to cover basic expenses. For example, two hours at a traditional table is a modest five bucks. Check the Reservations page for full pricing.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel?
You can reschedule up to 12 hours before your reservation. Cancellations are allowed up to 24 hours in advance. After that, you risk losing your reservation fee.

Lessons

How do I sign up for a lesson?
You can book a beginner lesson by choosing the 1 PM time slot on our Reservations page (lessons are offered during our first two hours only).
Want to learn Riichi or another style? Just contact us to set up a private session.

What style do you teach in group lessons?
Our regular group lessons teach Hong Kong-style mahjong. For Riichi or other styles, private lessons are available by request.

Do I need to bring anything?
Just yourself! We provide the tiles, tables, and instruction.
