Information About Our Atlanta Mahjong Lessons & Classes
Mahjong can be intimidating.
If you didn’t grow up playing it, the tiles all look the same, the rules seem mysterious, and everyone at the table somehow knows when you’re about to mess up.
That’s exactly why we offer lessons. Whether you’ve seen mahjong in anime, grew up watching your lola play in the garage, or you’re just curious what all the clicking is about — we’ll get you playing confidently and having fun.
Our classes are small, friendly, and designed to get you to the table as quickly as possible. No lectures. No gatekeeping. Just real games, clear instruction, and no judgment if you call a chow when you meant to pung.
NOTE: Some classes can be booked online. Others (like Riichi, guided play, and private lessons) require contacting us to schedule.
REQUIREMENTS & THINGS TO KNOW
- If you’re brand new to mahjong, start with Hong Kong Beginner.
- If you or someone in your group hasn’t played before, don’t book a table. Book a lesson instead.
- Advanced and Guided Play sessions require previous experience.
- Japanese Riichi requires completion of Hong Kong Beginner first.
If you’re not sure where you fit, just reach out. We’re happy to point you in the right direction — even if that direction is “not here... yet.”
HONG KONG MAHJONG LESSONS
$35 — Hong Kong Beginner
Learn the basics of Hong Kong Mahjong and start playing! This class covers:
- Tile types
- Basic rules
- How to build a legal winning hand ("chicken hand")
Schedule:
Saturdays & Sundays: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
$35 — Hong Kong Advanced
Learn how point-based HK Mahjong works and get ready to play with more experienced players.
- Faan scoring
- Hand-building strategy
- Table etiquette
Schedule:
Sundays: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Prerequisite: Must have taken Hong Kong Beginner or be comfortable building a chicken hand.
$20 per table — Hong Kong Guided Play
This is open play with live instruction and real-time coaching.
- Identify scoring opportunities
- Strengthen hand-building instincts
- Practice in a real game setting
Note: This is in addition to a regular table reservation. Everyone at the table must already know how to play.

Prerequisite: Must have completed Hong Kong Beginner or be able to play at that level.
PRIVATE HONG KONG LESSONS
$50 per person — Private Beginner or Advanced
Prefer a private setting? We offer small group sessions for 3 or more.

FILIPINO MAHJONG
$25 — Filipino Mahjong (Weeknights)
Learn the fastest and easiest of the four-player mahjong styles.
- Great for casual players or groups of friends
- Minimum of 3 players to schedule

JAPANESE RIICHI MAHJONG LESSON COURSE
$300 per person — 5-Session Course
A deep dive into the most strategic style of mahjong. This course is ideal for anime fans, gamers, or players who want to get nerdy about yaku.
You’ll learn:
- Tile differences and unique game flow
- Riichi terminology
- 30+ yaku win conditions
- Scoring: han, fu, penalties
- Full hands-on play with live scoring feedback
- Table etiquette
Schedule: Five 2-hour sessions. Contact us to schedule or join a waitlist.
- Group scheduling only.
- Minimum 3 participants.
Prerequisite: Must have completed Hong Kong Beginner.
$20 per table — Riichi Guided Play
Practice Riichi with instructor support.
- Open play with coaching
- No need to master scoring, but you should understand the game flow and yaku
