Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What kind of mahjong do you support?

    • We focus on Asian-style mahjong — including Chinese, Hong Kong, Filipino, Taiwanese, and Japanese (Riichi). We do not support American-style mahjong at this time.

Is this place open to beginners?

    • Yes! All skill levels are welcome. We offer lessons, and when you reserve a seat, we try to match players by experience whenever possible.

Is there gambling?

    • No. We’re a friendly community studio — gambling, smoking, and drinking are not allowed.

Can I bring food or drinks?

    • Sure, but we don’t sell them. Luckily, Atlanta Chinatown has multiple food stalls and restaurants right downstairs. You're welcome to bring food into the studio — just keep it tidy.

Where are you located?

    • We’re upstairs inside Atlanta Chinatown. Look for the staircase near the food court entrance. If you get lost, ask a vendor downstairs — they know where to point you.

Is the studio accessible by elevator?

    • Unfortunately, no. The building is older and does not have elevator access. Reaching our studio requires using stairs.

Reservations

Can I just walk in and play?

    • Sometimes, but not always. We recommend booking in advance to guarantee a seat or table.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel?

    • You can reschedule up to 12 hours before your reservation. Cancellations are allowed up to 24 hours in advance. After that, you risk losing your reservation fee.

What’s the difference between reserving a seat and a table?

    • seat reservation gets you one seat at a group table, usually playing our house style (Hong Kong for non-Riichi tables). A table reservation gives you full control — you choose the style, pace, and players.

How long can I reserve for?

    • All seat and table reservations can be booked for 2, 4, or 6-hour blocks.

How much does it cost?

    • Seat and table rentals are priced to cover basic expenses — check the Reservations page for full details.

Lessons

How do I sign up for a lesson?

    • You can book a beginner lesson by choosing the 1 PM time slot on our Reservations page (lessons are offered during our first two hours only). If you want to schedule a private lesson or learn a different style, just contact us.

What style do you teach in group lessons?

    • We teach Hong Kong-style mahjong during regular group lessons. For Riichi or other styles, please reach out for a custom session.

Do I need to bring anything?

    • Just yourself! We provide the tiles, tables, and instruction.

Studio Rental

Can I rent the studio for my group?

    • Yes — the studio is available Monday through Friday, from 6 PM to 10 PM. Visit the Studio Rental page and use the contact form to get started.

Will someone be there while we use the studio?

    • Yes. While you’ll have private use of the space, a member of our team (usually Mrs. K) will always be nearby in case you need help.

Is the thermostat adjustable?

    • Yes — you can control the temperature during your rental.

Can I bring an outside instructor or host a private class?

    • Definitely, Outside instructors are welcome.

Other Questions

Can I just come hang out and watch?

    • Sure! Space permitting, you're welcome to observe games — just don’t hover directly behind players. It's creepy.
