Hong Kong Chicken League

Sale price $65.00

sold out - but don't despair!

Add your name to the waitlist, and when enough interested players join, we'll create a SECOND Chicken League that starts in January as well.

What is The Chicken League?

  • A beginner-friendly, low-pressure, supportive series of sessions for players to focus on learning through real play.
  • A great bridge between class and learning how to play using the faan-laak table for scoring. If you don’t know what that is, but know how to make four sets a pair, then this is the place for you.
  • You do not need to know how to score or have taken the Advanced Hong Kong class to join! There are no negative points like in traditional mahjong!

How It Works

  • Each session will be 2 hours long.
  • Tables rotate each session to keep things social.
  • Play chicken hand rounds. (No points required to win.)
  • You can miss weeks, no biggie! Just let us know so that we can find a sub for you!
  • Ask Mrs. K for help if you need it! She’ll be around, but she will not be backseat driving! This is your time to practice making choices!
  • Track your wins! We will lightly track wins but this is NOT a serious or competitive league.
  • At the end of the season, one lucky top player will take home a fancy mahjong set, but remember, the real goal is fun, new friends, and playing mahjong!

Schedule

  • January 11, Sunday 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • January 18, Sunday 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • January 25, No games this week
  • February 1, Sunday 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • February 8, Sunday 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Ending at 6 PM is a perfect time to join Mrs. K for dinner, just saying. ;)

Requirements

  • You have taken our Hong Kong Beginner Class OR know what a winning hand looks like (4 sets and one pair).
  • You are familiar with basic calls: Pong, Kong, Chow, and of course, MAHJONG! It’s okay if you call out the wrong thing sometimes, but you’re not calling out UNO when you mean Pong!
  • Your schedule allows for attending at least 2 of the four sessions.

What to expect (Player Etiquette)

  • We try our best to adhere to “Say, Show, Do!” We say the call we want to make, expose the tiles, and then do the action. We do not silently throw down two tiles to make a pong without saying a word and then make a frowny face because the next person draws their tile due to not reading your mind!
  • We help others at the table. We want to win, but we are all here to learn the game and have a good time!
  • We play at a friendly pace and avoid rushing other players or taking too long ourselves!
